Thuma mina

On March 16th, 2020, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster in South Africa because of the corona virus, saying:

“This is a difficult time. And yet it is in times of adversity that our strength is revealed. We will act decisively, with determination and with purpose. We will act as a collective, for it is upon the actions of every South African that the success of our efforts depend.

The Thuma Mina moment is upon us, perhaps as never before.”

For my South African friends and for all of you, we recorded the South African religious song ‘Thuma mina Somandla’ (Send me, Almighty). This refers to the call of the prophet Isaiah to be a messenger of hope to the hopeless. The song is a call to us all to spread hope, be available to lend a hand, and make a difference in people’s lives.
